In the last few months, those of us working in Web 2.0 for WIU have really upgraded the online networks through which we’re trying to connect with the WIU community. The WIU Macomb Campus MySpace page continues to gather friends (MySpace Schools really helps build that network), WIU’s College of Education and Human Services has been on MySpace for a while now, and as of November 24, WIU’s Quad Cities’ campus has a MySpace presence.
There are probably several (hundred) start-up businesses trying to help colleges and universities “get into” Web 2.0, but with a little research, some time on social networks, and the help of bloghighed, we’ve been able to do it without paying beaucoup bucks. (We did have a little help from DIOSA Communications, which provides you with a good foundation, if you’re a complete newbie to Web 2.0.)
Here in WIU’s University Relations office, we’re also using Web 2.0 Whiz Kid Rebecca Eineke, a senior English major and a member of Western’s Centennial Honors College (and that’s just the very short list of her activities and accomplishments at Western).
I know this sounds like a cheerleading post, but we really have gotten some hip things underway here at Western — from The Western Courier News Network on Mogulus to the page that aggregates all of WIU’s Web 2.0 stuff in one place online to the Rocky at Game Nite video on WIU’s YouTube Channel (see below) and MySpace TV — and we’re hoping that more and more, the WIU community will connect with WIU here as well as through WIU’s websites (both Macomb campus and Quad Cities campus).
