Former Leatherneck basketball player Tugba Palazoglu is a member of the Turkish women’s basketball team playing in the 2012 Olympic games in London.
Palazoglu, also a current WNBA basketball player, has averaged 10.5 points per game through the four games that have been played so far. She was a member of the WIU Leatherneck basketball team between 2001 and 2003.
The following was part of her profile on the Euro-Basketball website:
“Tugba Palazoglu has lightening quickness, which means she is a great defensive presence to have on the team. Only two other players at EuroBasket Women 2009 finished with more steals per game and that kind of intensity will remain a real weapon for Turkey. At the offensive end, the speed of Palazoglu can occasionally prove less effective with a heightened risk of turnovers although she can knock down shots, and on her day, can prove to be an ‘X-Factor’. This guard has won a EuroCup Women title with Galatasaray as well as domestic trophies and has been a Turkish League All Star. A late bloomer at the senior National Team level, she didn’t play in the Qualifying Round but showed plenty at EuroBasket Women 2009 to highlight why she is likely to be a core member of the team once again.”
